2022 chicks

So far so good! 3 eggs laid, chicks hatched, and it’s looking good for all three to fledge.

Watching ospreys really can be a roller coaster of emotions, from the Hope that both birds will make it back from Africa in March/April, then come the Joy of watching the eggs being laid and the subsequent hatching. The Worry of are the chicks being fed enough, to the Stress of organising the ringing, having to do this 2 – 3 weeks in advance of the event. So not really knowing how the weather will behave. Then there is Relief after the ringing, that everything as well as it can. Even managed to get enough footage to make a short video, and some nice photographs. The Pride seeing the birds taking to air for the first time and coming back to the nest safely, and eventually leaving on their long journey to far away lands.

554 aged 40 days at ringing weighed 1485g, he was the first to fledge aged 50 days, on the 11th of July
553 aged 40 days old at the time of ringing (1st July) she weighed 1710g, she fledged on the 15th of July aged 54 days old.

555, the youngest Male. He weighed 1430g at the time of ringing aged 37 days old. Fledged on the 17th of July 2022, aged 53 days old.
