Update 25th April 2023

Just a quick update, we have 3 eggs on the nest, laid on the 13th, 16th and 19th of April. The first laid is egg is the darker of the three, and is due to hatch around the 20/21st of May. The first egg usually takes around 38 days to hatch. Then the subsequent eggs are usually around 48 hours apart. So far the weather has been OK, and not too wet or too cold. So fingers crossed we get all three to hatch.

Intruder on the 24th of April at 18:20 we had a female osprey come make a fast and low approach to the nest, I couldn’t see the ring on that camera, but did manage to capture the ring number on the top camera. It was Blue Z5, a female from 2020 of the BM nest up in snowdonia. Managed by The Friends of the Ospreys. Hopefully she’s goes onto find a nest of her own in Wales.

We are live!

The live stream cameras are now good to go.
We will continue to stream for 12hrs so there will be two 12 hour streams per /day/camera, like last year. There will be a day stream and evening/night (with infrared) stream.

Live stream for 2023 update

Just a quick one to give everyone an update on the live stream for 2023.

All the equipment has been installed, and is currently going through some fine tuning and stability testing. We hope to have it up and running on YouTube live by next week.

Screen grab from the camera. 2 Crossbills on the nest.

As a reminder 5F (Seren) arrived here last year on the 26th of March, so I expect her to be back around that date give or take a few days. Someone is actually going to check on her last seen location in Gambia this week, ofcourse she may not be there, but its worth checking. Dylan our breeding male was here on the 5th of April last year and was later that usual. But again I expect him back end of March early April again. This is all very much weather dependent, with favourable winds.

As a bit of a teaser here is a clip I made of a buzzard landing on the nest, this week.

Seren 5F has been sighted in The Gambia!

This morning I randomly came across a post on the Rutland Osprey Facebook page. It was a back of the camera picture of an osprey sat on a pole. The poster said it was 5F. I had to do a double take, almost scrolled past it. Checked it was actually a current post and not something from last year that had been revisited with a stray comment as that sometimes happens on Facebook..

Nope it was only posted (at the time) 30 odd minutes ago. I filled the photographer in with the info and history of 5F. I quickly messaged Chris Wood who I knew was out in The Gambia too in the hope he had time to go and see her. Luckily he did get word and went out in the afternoon and found on the same pole the other photographer seen her. 5F even gave a close fly past for Chris which would of been great for him to have seen her.

Since she has been breeding here at Llyn Clywedog she hasn’t been seen in her usual places, so it was good to finally add another location to the list of known hideaways she uses. As you can see in Chris’s photos you can see she is in good health which is great to see. It won’t be long now and she will be back here in Mid Wales!
